Sookie was the youngest of two children. Sookie's mind-reading ability was apparent from birth, though most people refused to acknowledge that she was able to literally read minds. Her psychic powers manifested as a child, and it is indicated in the books that her parents thought she may have been subject to a mental illness, and was treated as such. However, Sookie does tell of one point when her father asked her to "listen" in on a business meeting to discern the true intentions of another person. She told her father the man was intending to take his money and run. Her parents died when she was 7 years old, leaving her and her older brother Jason to be raised by her grandmother.
She was also sexually molested as a child by her great uncle. Her parents never believed her accusations against him, but, after their death, Sookie's grandmother realized his threat to Sookie and prevented further contact between him and Sookie. It is implied that he molested her cousin Hadley more extensively than her.
Sookie had not received secondary education after high school, since she knew that college would have been a drain for her, both physically and financially. To support herself, Sookie is employed at Merlottes, owned by local shifter, Sam Merlotte. Sam had been her a longtime friend of Sookies and a romantic interest, which Sookie feared to pursue since she believed that would lead to problems between them.
One night, when vampire Bill Compton walked into the bar, her life had been changed forever. She was launched into a world which was both thrilling and terrifying, given that her mind reading ability was seen as something desirable by the vampire community. Then Sookie met Eric and Pam, from Fangtasia. She seems to get along with Pam, but, she can tell that Eric lusts for her.

Sookie was at Merlottes, working like a dog. She tried to ignore the pain in her feet, as she smiled at the costumers giving them their food and taking their orders.
'Dumb blond bimbo.'She heard a woman think, as she gave the woman her food and drink,
"Here you go M'am. Hope you enjoy it."Sookie told her with her Southern drawl, with a fake smile, before walking away,
'Hope you choke on it.'She really wanted to tell the woman, as she got to the next table,
"What can I get y'll tonight?"She asked, having her pad and pen out,
"Couple of beers, would be nice."One of the men said, as Sookie wrote down what he told her,
"Comin' right up."She told him, before heading to the bar,
"Couple of beers, please?"Sookie asked, and Sam put two beers on the tray.
She picked up the tray and walked back to the table,
"Here you go. Two beers."She said, putting them on the table ane walking to the next table doing the same.
Then she saw two vampires walk into Merlottes, causing everyone to be quiet.
Figuring that Arlene wouldn't think about serving Vampires, Sookie took them for her.
She walked up to their booth with a smile and her guard down, since she couldn't hear their thoughts,
"What would y'll like tonight?"She asked, with again, her pad and pen,
"Two Tru-Bloods, Ma Cher."The Creole Dark-haired vampire said, as she wrote it down,
"What type would you like?"She asked,
"B and O neg, Lass."The Irish Red-haired vampire said, and again she wrote it down,
"Alright, be back in a bit."Sookie told them, before going to warm up the two Tru-Bloods in the microwave, before putting them on the tray, walking back to their booth,
"B and O neg Tru Bloods. Enjoy."She said, putting them on the table, with a sweet smile,
"If you serve us this well, we'll come here every night."The Creole vampire said, making Sookie blush slightly,
"Why thank you. Enjoy y'll drinks."She told them, before continueing the rest of her shift for the night, so, she could head home and relax and sleep, dreaming of her vampire Bill.
Sookie giggled softly, think about him. He was her savior in so many ways, he comforts her at times when she's upset, and they have amazing sex. Which when she thought of that, she lightly blushed, before working her next table.
